That sounds like a good idea, just didn't think it would be as secure... Seems easier to tighten up whipping more than pulling plastic but if I do take the zip tie route in experimentation, what width / size zip tie would you recommend?

Nice slings Smiley

And yeah, you're better off not bothering with the crackers. Those will only really work on slings with tapered release cords Smiley

Awwww why tapered necessary? Is there any tapered paracord I can buy pre made so I simple cut to length and tie to pouch?

It won't work at all without taper..?  Just release cord being half paracord single strand, half whip cracker and hold on to loop and end of equally length cracker?

best thing you can do is to experiment.
i want my slings silent and i put inverse taper.but still if there are some loose threads at the end of the release cord they make crack noises.
a tapered cord would enhance it... but probably the end is what counts more

if you use 2 strands of paracord inards and have a short cracker it will crack, just not as loud as a balearic sling Smiley

Are you guys referring to an actual whip-like whipcrack, or just a muffled "fwipp"ing noise?  Huh
The only noise I've ever gotten with paracord is the usual harsh cutting noise. (And that's even with experiments with tassels and crackers using the inner strands.)

It's necessary for the same reason it's necessary on a bullwhip--it helps accelerate the tip fast enough to create sonic booms. Smiley

Unfortunately you can't get pre-made cord tapered, since manufacturers make miles of it at a time.
Fortunately braided slings aren't hard to make Smiley

With a thin enough cracker and a good solid fast throw you can get actual cracks with it, figure eight works great if you can get the power into it. Smiley

Awesome, now blowgunman, how long should the cracker be on a 24-28 inch sling?

And does the cracker go after the regular length sling release cord, or do I cut the release cord mid or 2/3rds the way and replace the last sections length with the cracker, using the end of the cracker for the release knot?

Also are there any other benefits to having a tapered sling other than the cracking sound?

For the zip ties size, I would say... not too big :p I bought two 100 packs some time ago and I won't search for the long forgotten labels Smiley

for the cracker, on a paracord sling, do the full length, plus a few cm, fold the end, tie it tight and add a loop of left over yarn. Fray the ends and you got it. The folded part can be used to pinch the release cord.

Yes, the tapering concentrates the energy as it travels down the line but putting a cracker on the end works just fine. I like having a replaceable cracker because then it wears out not the actual sling cord.
It is a good debate but even a thick belt will crack the air and it has no taper or cracker! It's about creating an air pocket for the air to rush in. The air "crumpling" into the vacuum is what makes the noise. So really, the bigger the air pocket, the bigger the noise

Bought my zip ties. They're about 1-1.5mm thick, 4mm wide, 75lb tensile strength

Pics attached, $2.49 for 20.

I will make use of them relatively soon on a new seatbelt sling.

I applaud your choice of the Seatbelt Sling to give out as gifts.  The Seatbelt Sling is easy to use, extremely versatile, easy to make, and very durable.  I think everyone should make and try one.  They make great snowball slings. Nice job, BTW.  Your slings look good,
Xenovora.
