This website sometimes has South American slings available (not necessarily from Peru): http://www.flight-toys.com/southamerica.html

Sometimes you can find them on ebay as well. Try search terms like "andean sling" or "huaraca".

Whenever i see these Tibetan or Peruvian slings I just shake my head. Soft fibers with no covering. 100 throws and they begin to show damage and they're garbage soon after.. More like decorative ornaments to hang on the wall than functional weapons.. Roll Eyes

and that is a fact.

Just to offset that comment I would like to state that I've got a sling made of wool that is 4-5 years old that I got made by Timothy Potter and it has almost no wear.
The difference is the quality of wool.
The wool he used is five time thicker and denser than what I've seen at fabric stores. I also paid less for it than the going price of a real Balearic Style sling.
It is a quality product- thanks again Mr Potter.
I also believe that alpaca/llama wool is stronger than sheep's wool.

So wait.. you've actually been using a bare wool sling for 5 years and rocks have done no damage to it? This truly has not been my experience at all in the slightest and I mean truly. Rocks beat natural fibers and that's just how it works. The only thing I've seen able to hold up to stones is solid leather over top the fibers. So I'm baffled unless your sling has been hardly used or something like that..

Nope, it has seen rocks, cement, wet fields, riverbed stones- and mud.
It does have some wear at the tip of the pouch but it still has a long life yet.
And it still has a cracker too. The wool is more supple and doesn't break at the release knot like other slings I've had.
Once again, I think it has to do with the quality of wool and the quality of workmanship.

I think it has more to do with your throwing style than the wool or workmanship. I've noticed Balearic side arm tends to do more damage to the release chord than other styles, especially when throwing at close range where you have to change the angle of the rotation drastically and the rock tumbles on the release chord more than long lobs. I happen to be an avid Balearic style slinger which is why I might be having much different experiences with wool than you Tomas... because I've never seen thick wool defeat stone before    Huh

Thanks for making me think on this one Tomas

Huntsman, I too thought about whether a clean release came into play but I use balearic with that sling.
And ya man, just trying to brainwash ya to my way of thinking;)
