PVC Atlatls

BackyardBowyer strikes gold yet again with some cheap, yet still pretty-looking Atlatls and darts adapted to PVC Smiley
(Or in the case of the darts, sporting PVC-based enhancements)

Basketmaker-style PVC atlatl:

And potentially more interesting [for all atlatlists], a design for 2-piece takedown atlatl darts:

That's awesome! I made a PVC bow before from one of his videos too. He's really creative

Pretty good vids. Learned a little more about the accuracy and length ratio. For me, Atlatls are easy enough to carve out of a stick so I don't see a need for making one out of plastic. Darts on the other hand aren't all that easy, so i'll be trying these out for sure Wink

Made Pex Piles  Smiley so I needed a 3 piece pex jointed dart with nock , duct tape fletch and a hunk of pvc pipe to throw with Wink . now I need to make more darts. Cool
The pex piles are 15 grams and made with #8 cut masonry nails

I now have a second pex pile dart  Cool easy..peasy  Roll Eyes
Wood looking too raw .. darts now stained and urethane coated. Three more needed for a set of five.

Awesome, Steven!  Cool Is that un-flattened pipe your atlatl? Is the loop supposed to serve as the spur/knock of sorts? If so, interesting design Smiley

I have a bit of 1/2" PVC pipe lying around as well, and I'm tempted to try my hand at my newest atlatl as well. All I need are some 3/4" dowels, or whatever they were.
(I know the thickness is identical to my warbow/hunting-arrow dowel shafts from awhile back, I just can't remember the obscure Imperial measurement :p)

The perfect summer project Smiley

Unflattened pipe is my atlatal.

Got the idea from this:
http://www.primitiveways.com/fork_atlatl1.html
http://www.primitiveways.com/loop_cord_atlatl.html

I don't need a fork.

There is a nock cut into the dart and the cord loop goes into the dart's nock.
I didn't want to mess about with making a spur in the pvc.

P S  the darts outside diameter and pex inside diameter are 3/8" and each segment is 20 inches with a smidgeon of hot melt glue at each joint

Now I need to try a 7/16 or 1/2 inch dart to compare flight characteristics maybe both.
