After 3 days of tense slinging just now, I can feel a pain in my left shoulder blade. If I move my left arm in a certain direction, it makes a soft popping sound, combined with a not very painful, but definitely uncomfortable feeling. I'm not sure if it's slinging related, since it's my left shoulder blade, but maybe it's because I slung too much Greek sidearm. I can't sling Greek sidearm comfortably now, I will stay with balearic and put no stress on the left side of my arm. It's the first time I have this...

I'd lay off the slinging for a good week. Do some range of motion movements and get some good sleeps. Maybe work on making a superb sling

I had a shoulder blade related injury a long time ago, though it was on my slinging side. I also Balearic/ Greek Sidearm combo of sorts. This is what helped me in addition to an initial warm up.

So your left shoulder blade is the one that is hurting Jauke. Standing, take your right hand and grab behind your left shoulder. Pulling down with your right hand, shrug your left shoulder so it raises up and you should feel a stretch in your center and lower left shoulder blade. As you're doing this, you can also bend forward and feel the shoulder blade open a bit more.

Also, I'd also recommend taking a few days off at least.

The popping sound is typical of a tendon out of alignment from a tear or serious strain. I know because I got my popping sound checked out. Just take it easy. And it's only rain Wink

I've watched plenty of people smack themselves in the back of the head using a greek style throw.

Hilarious - but one reason to always start beginners with sock balls or tennis balls.

What happens is they don't bring the sling round far enough before the final throw and WHACK !

Now do that with a stone and it'd really hurt !

In my opinion Apache is the safest to the slinger.  It is the most simple with the least amount of steps therefore it has the least amount of opportunities to screw up.  As for the most dangerous it's hard to say.  Pirouette comes to mind.

i have found that Apache actually tends to mess up my shoulder blade and elbow, whereas pirouette actually uses your bodies momentum so it is a little bit less tiring on my arm, just a different side of the argument. Smiley
