i have a question...
Jul 3rd, 2015 at 1:01am

So here's a little backstory before the actual question, this past Wednesday i was able to, at my youth group sling a tennis ball some with my long sling for the first time with a new style "combo" that seemed to work amazingly, and i was able to with the wind going towards me sling a tennis ball 80 meters which is pretty close but not an entire football field. Now my question, if the tennis ball went 80m how fast was it going i don't remember the time it took otherwise i would use that equation, that's why i was hoping one of you guys that new a lot more formulas than i did might know one to find the speed of it.  Wink
i'll probably edit this post soon with a link to a video on the style that i used, in case you were wondering.

You either need the time it took the ball to reach its target or the approximate angle at which you released the shot.
You then can estimate the velocity with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trajectory_of_a_projectile (solve the very first formula with respect to v).
Your estimated velocity will be too low because this formula does not take into account air resistance.

or throw it again and time it Smiley

80 metres is a pretty good distance for a tennis ball. Thumbs Up

Impressive!

I always sling tennis balls from well-within the length of a tennis court, since using them for long-distance is like slinging a wad of feathers Tongue

80m is about the maximum you can get out of a tennis ball.  The surface really slows the ball down rather quickly.  Which can be a good thing, especially if you have limited areas to throw in.

Now a shaved tennis ball will go  a very long way Smiley

There was a tennis ball distance competition I believe.
Can't remember what people got.
