A new "compound" sling
May 30th, 2015 at 12:25pm

Hi guys, so I have this idea on how to make a "compound" sling, the way to make it is semi simple in concept, all that you do is have a simple split pouch sling for the base of it, then you have a third string that is centered in between the two strings. From there it gets kinda complicated because you have to find the perfect amount of tension on the center string so that when the ball is in the pouch all three strings are flat so that the ball doesn't fall out of your pouch, but the way that it is a compound sling is that the central string is slightly more stretchy so that when you release it pushes the ammo out of you pouch more that the regular split pouch, thus you have a slingshot type of release where the center string pushes the ball out of the pouch. Hopefully you guys understood this, I beleive that this will give a small amount more force behind the ball, propelling it better. Thoughts? P.S. If you are able to make this work show a pic of your sling, and maybe even a video of you using it.  Smiley

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

this is an ok picture, but its not great. the basic idea is that the "camo" string is pushing the ball out of the pouch because it just the right tension that it is flat when the sling is folded and ready to fire, but when you release it springs more than the pouch would.

I like it. I'm not sure if the projectile would still be in the pouch by the time it comes into play but its a great idea.

It will be hard to get a single string behind the projectile to exert the force in the right direction…

That being said, there is only one way to find out.

i was able to get this to work semi well, i just couldn't tell if it was making any difference. it didn't seem to cause any problems with the release though.

A single flat strap might work better than a string.

so, basically, you're trying to add a weak slingshot to a sling pouch.

It'll work - but I doubt you'll see any noticeable difference between that and a sling without a stretchy bit of cord.

Now I understand; and I like all the new developments. But I think that this does not allow the momentum, but only adds a rotation.
