favorite knot?

Not necessarily the most useful or the most used but your favorite. One that made you say- hey that's clever.

I just came across the midshipman's hitch (or loop). It's an adjustable loop in the line- but under a load it doesn't tighten it holds. Simple to tie and simply clever.

Right now I'd say the coin knot. Its easy, looks good and is the basis of a few more complicated knots.

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine:  'Yea' isn't the word you want.  It's 'yeah'.  'Yea' is an anachronistic word you see in the King James bible. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Spellcheck, I shall fear no misspellings for thou art with me.  Thy dictionary and thy thesaurus, they comfort me.

Back in my youth, I was an avid fisherman, and I learned to tie the "blood" knot for joining tapered leaders and such.
This was before you could buy factory-tapered leaders for fly fishing.

Useful for other things as well....I showed it to my wife to join the ends of yarn she was crocheting.

The "Longbow knot" mentioned in this thread is still my favorite for loops; http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1221049692/0
I use lots of knots all the time, though  Smiley

I'm not sure I have one favorite knot, but I am a big fan of the constrictor knot and its variations. I use it all the time in my braiding work as well as for other applications.

The Turk's Head Knot. My da used to make my woggles using a Turk's Head Knot when I was in the Boy Scouts. That was one of the coolest things to me when I was younger.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

As a fisherman I like the Palamar Knot a lot.
http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php?Categ=fishing
Usually the knot is the weakest point in a fishing line.  If you'll notice, the line is doubled at the knot in this case making it the strongest point instead.  Besides that this knot is relatively easy to learn to make and can be tied quickly.
The Palamar Knot is my go to fishing knot.
