From photographs, I'd say two long cords (say 1.50-60m each), attached to a big, rectangular pouch made of stiff material

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of modern arms in Palestinian now, a Palestinian girl was killed by gunfire shot by guns fired in the air during a wedding celebration.

And the slings are certainly effective as they do kill. Now a Palestinian who uses a sling to throw stones towards Israeli to make bodily harm, could get a jail sentence of 20 years. Which, by the way, is about what you could get in Australia.

Thaball's collection of pics is very good-- shows the long cords and the very long, rectangular pouches-- everything optimized towards throwing big stones. I wonder what the material for the right-angled pouches is-- it's very stiff, like some sort of rubber or plastic sheeting (not unlike the conveyor belt material Aussie used).

Hi, it would be interesting to know what is the material they use for the pouches. I have no idea, perhaps a cut piece of a hose, or something from a car.

Footage of Palestinians with their slings.

I'm such a spoiled slinger.

I have nice round river stones. They're smashing up sharp edged bricks.

I'm throwing my stones into a pristine lake with pine covered hills with white peaked mountains on the horizon.
They're throwing at Israeli soldier in the desert.

I take a break and sling some tennis balls for the dog.
They probably can't afford to feed a dog so they don't have one.

I'm upset because a rock I thought was round turned out to be a fat boulder under the ground. They're upset because the rock they thought was round was next to a land mine or something.

Good video though  Wink

It is an amazing vid-- with the sense of plunging fire on the Israeli outpost.

Fantastic!!!! The Palestinians have developed Slingtillery! years ago I saw a Palestinian kid going up against a squad of Israeli troops with nothing but a sling and a prayer. I'll never forget it. By all right's he ought to have been smoked on the spot, but for some reason the Israeli's backed down. The entire scene was indelibly etched into my memory.

Symbolic resistance…not combat slinging.

You never see an Israeli getting injured by a sling stone. They would have videos if they were doing anything effective.

Unfortunately for the slingers, they have no idea what tactics are or how to organise. Slings were used in volley fire for a reason.

What these guys are doing is more like skirmishing, from a distance, lobbing big, ineffective heavy stones…not too far.

They would get shot if they were zinging 100+mph rocks and hitting soldiers in the face…or using lead, wheel weights or pieces of re-bar.

It may be that the Israeli border police and army has won the arms race with the stone-throwers: good body armour, vehicles, riot control weapons, and a legal arsenal that punishes stone-throwers.

But not always:

(Kfar Qadum, 2012)

Notice that Israeli police does not compile, or at least does not release, data on injuries caused by Palestinian stone-throwing (as opposed to the well publicized incidents when Israeli civilians lose their lives, usually because stone throwing causes traffic accidents):

http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/israel-defense-forces-rock-throwing-in....

There is a good wikipedia article on the theme ! A lot on the symbolism and the moral economies of the gesture--
