V. good collection of papers on Caesarian-era militaria from Gaul.

Final paper by M. Poux, lots on slings. NB Romans collected slingstones as well as sling bullets (Gergovia material). Lead bullets very characteristic: big concentration in S. Gaul, prob. linked with military operations in C2nd BC (conquest of Narbonensis, campaign against Germans). Caesarian material, esp. Alesia: Jlasud might be interested to know that the weights of the sling bullets concentrate around 52-55g (a bit heavier than the Greek).

Very good plates, too, notably histograms for size and weight of sling bullets.

M. Poux has an article called "Les Frondeurs de César" in the magazine L'Archéologue, juin-juilet 2000 (not on his academia.edu page, alas).

Hoorah!
Lead weights might also reflect the amounts of lead deposits they had, as well as experience with them and logistics/strategy.
