My only thought- OW!
Very pretty.
Maybe try thinner steel?
Thick steels don't sink into fruit nearly as well.

Very good, it looks like it has a nice weight for throwing.

Squirrel, the ones you are talking about are more like for throwing at dart boards, the one displayed is a real weapon.

Nice work man. It has been a couple years since I last worked with throwing stars or spikes but I do remember that weight is a huge factor in getting a good impact or stick. Same goes for throwing knives or most projectiles.

I was pretty good at slinging like 10 years ago.

Thank you Arcane Tinker, Pikåru, Squirrelslinger, Bill and Dan Smiley
This size 8cmX8cm and a thickness of 6mm. On the other side is only 3mm sharpening.
Weight is 190g; when you throw this on the wall, the whole wall wham. Smiley

I meant, 6mm steel is very thick, even for throwing stars. I know what you mean Bill. But no, the ones I mean are intended for killing things. usually made from 3-4mm steel.
I bet it has a lot of weight, but the thickness will retard penetration signifigantly compared to a thinner larger one.
large heavy projectiles have a lot of KE.
Try slinging it?

I made some collapsible/foldable throwing stars when I was a youth.

Easy to carry a bunch around in your pocket - but they worked really well Smiley

Should be pics on here somewhere noidea

Okay - here you go:
http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1214853901/4#4

...

Nowhere near as flash or professional as timpa's - but like I said I could carry them in my pocket without having to worry about ripping an extra anus when I sat down whistle

Plus I was only 15 at the time Smiley
Doesn't time fly - that was over 30 yeras ago !  Shocked

Collapsible the stars are an interesting acquaintance. I saw them internet for the first time in my life a week ago.

Below the star is as old as the CA stars. I did it in school for about 1980 to 1982. The tips are cold forged and has a thickness of 3mm. It I throw a sling here:

They spin like buzz saw blades....waaay faster spin than you could ever get by hand, way faster than necessary.  In my experience, it makes for a more difficult stick because it has such massive rotational inertia that it sticks and then torques out and sorta deflects.
My take: (take two: sorry for the size of the last picture)

5mm thick stainless steel, 14cm. point to point. ~185g.

Back in the day .. down on the farm this is what I used.
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzIwWDk2MA==/z/txgAAOxyBotTYQFO/$_57.JPG a Sickle Bar Tooth

I would sharpen the flat edge too; that edge was about 2.5 inches long.

AT's star also snaps tight in between the tips of the branch.

@Steven:
Four triangles could be bolted into a single star?
