I would plug one end and fill the horn with epoxy. Enough to start coming out of the little thin spot. Then I'd sand down the epoxy in that's coming out of the hole.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

Jaegoor has a very sharp (no pun intended) looking staff sling with a horn at the release end of the staff.  Jaegoor, can you please post a picture of your beautiful horn tipped staff sling?

I continued using up the remainings of the horns.
It is again jewellery, this time a necklace. Fistbraided cotton yarn, locally found pyrite and partially polished chamois horn with a magnetic closure.

That's awesome! I've picked up horn tips used for bows and made one sling with one and another I'm slowly grinding away to make a lucet. I have a pack of three more which I'm hoping will arrive in time for Halloween. I'm thinking of giving myself some horns...

I wish I'd seen this sooner. I work with horn. The horns can be carefully sliced, then put wooden plugs in one end, for nice looking shot glasses. The inside would have to be coated with something to keep bacteria out. I use salad bowl finish, a food safe polyurethane . The solid parts could be carved inti whatever.

That is an outstanding idea on how to close the necklace in the front to avoid putting stress on the closure.

Do you mind if I copy that at a later date?  You have given me an idea...

Cheesy At least in German, this has a rather... mhhh... interesting double meaning.

Could you quickly share how you slice the horn? I tried a couple different things, but the end result always requires quite a bit of sanding and polishing. Currently I'm using a fine metal saw but I'm not satisfied and I'm looking for a better way.

Sure, go ahead. The stones are a bit overhanging and therefore hide the cut. The magnets have an adhesive force of ~600g. Could you post or send me a picture once you're finished? I'm curious.

I guess THAT would depend on the type of Halloween party. I'm not so interested in THAT type of party. Cheesy

I usually use a coping saw with a fine tooth, 20-32tpi whichever I can find. Biggest thing is to take your time while cutting, and make sure the horn is firmly secured.
A fine toothed hacksaw can work too. And of course, cut in a well ventilated space.
I'll admit I never worked with chamois horn before, so I have no idea about the grain. Fine grain is easier to cut than large grain.

It's not so much the magnets as it is just hooking it in front.  Until I saw what you did, the idea of hooking in front had never even crossed my mind.

Until I saw your picture, every necklace I had ever seen had hooked in the back...
