Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

Cool! As a broke unemployed college kid, I'm rather envious.

Now, I remember the questionable quality of some of the camp counselors I had, so given your enthusiasm you can only be better, and I hate to sound like a debby downer, but what qualifications do you have for this? Are you working off a manual or a guide or something? Or the BSA Wilderness Survival curriculum perhaps? Most other BSA activities can be taught by irresponsible semi-adults, but survival is a little trickier in this regard.

8 hours a day, 6 days a week for a 14 year old? That's some lax employment law you have over there!

That is a wicked fun job! Although I think surviving the kids may prove harder than surviving the elements;)

Scout and religious camps are exempted from certain labors laws here in the U.S. As a fellow Scouter and camp staff member, I say well done! Camp life is certainly an interesting experience, and I think it's one that you will cherish for a long time. Most of my staff keep coming back year after year. I hope you have just as positive of an experience.

Congratulations, Ss.  Getting a job like that is  quite an accomplishment for a 14 year old.  My first job was teaching water skiing to a day camp at the lake I went to as a kid, Pillings Lake in Clementon, N.J..  It's also known as Blue Mirror Lake and Frosty's.  The dam broke in the '70s and the lake has been gone since.  I was just about your age at the time.  I didn't get anything close to the five grand you're making.  I got a free season pass to the lake, free water skiing after the day campers were done, and girls, girls, girls.  The girls were the best part.  One, Bonnie, I still think about to this day.
