Between 10" and 60" then. Otherwise none.

Any shorter or long is useless/dangerous, and that range was stretching it a bit.

I say up it to 80 inches.
Smiley
Actually restrict it from 15" to 55"
Anything under 15" is more or less as accurate as hand throwing it

I say no restriction.  I disagree with the generalization of shorter slings being more accurate than longer ones.  Close up shorter ones are probably more accurate, but once past a certain point the short sling's trajectory really start to drop after 10 to 20 meters where a longer sling can sling a flat line drive to and past 50 meters.   Hitting an object with a 10 inch sling at a target that's 50 meters is probably as hard as hitting a target with in 10 meters with a 40 inch sling.

Another question to ask is:  Would it be alright to switch slings in mid competition for the one more suited for the distance?

[Figured I'd throw some more in for the sake of discussion]

One more thing that would be annoying is the fact that what makes a sling behave like a long/medium/short sling in the first place is the ratio to the individual slinger's dimensions.
At 6'/183cm tall, and with a 31"/79cm arm, what I consider to be a short sling would be more like a medium-length sling to someone at least a full head shorter than me.

If something based on category (Short/medium/long sling, etc.) were to gain traction, it should at least make it's definition based on ratio, not some arbitrary length.

Exactly.  Whether in bow making, sling making or whatever it's all proportional.

How about having sling lenth categories? Have a short, medium znd long category. Have a historical replica category, any material category, and an any weapon category. Categories could be expanded & retracted as. Necessary to fit the needs & interest of the competitors.

I think a range of length makes sense.
