Meteor Hammer Demonstration and Tutorial
Mar 3rd, 2013 at 10:12pm

Hello,

I have another freestyle meteor hammer or rope dart demonstration video out! I think it's a lot better than the first video, so I'm curious to see your reaction!

Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf8cTN3PCzI

Also, if anyone is interested in learning how to use a rope dart or meteor hammer I have created a lot of tutorial videos for the moves.

Here is the first tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNd-ScZ3Q00

Thanks!

Nick.

I'm impressed. Personally, I have a taboo against weapons that bend in the middle, because I always seem to hit myself. Maybe I ought to download a few of your tutorials!

Thanks Kjev, I seemed to hit myself every few minutes when I started but eventually you stop hitting yourself. Or you just become numb to all the hits  Wink

Yeah I hope the tutorials will help you learn! Smiley

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

I've seen the rope dart before many years ago. I never tried it because I'm afraid of hitting myself Shocked

Thanks guys for the feedback! I really appreciate it!

This video was filmed on the same day as the last one I had uploaded. I think I filmed this video before the other one when I had a lot more energy and willpower in the 28 degree heat!

While you are very good I feel the need to give you a bit of a friendly nudge in terms of... terms. You are practicing the rope dart. It is a very good flexible weapon that i carry a form of at all times. (I have practiced and taught this for years). You are very good. I am impressed. kudos. However;
A rope dart is a single weight in a rope. The dart can be a small knife, weight or solid, small object.
Meteor hammers are historically used in dual form on a single rope in a fashion similar to poi poi. there are no historical sources for single form meteor hammer except those fabricated in modern times to cover a lack of knowledge or to cover a misunderstanding in education. What I mean is some people are told that a meteor hammer can be used in single form and believe it without checking.
Kill bill got it wrong and any shop or book that says you can use single meteors,,, well they are shops and books,,,, they're trying to sell you something so will tell you what you want to hear.
Again, in closing, your form is excellent and I am impressed at your skill. Kudos.

My books on martial arts consistently mention both single and double weighted meteor hammers and classify them by their length and the weight on the end. Rope darts are a shorter, lighter weapon with a different set of techniques. I believe the distinction between 1 and 2 weight versions is a modern one.

Thanks Narrative. Have you any sources to support 'there aren't any historical sources for single form meteor hammers'? I have seen countless videos of Shaolin monks using a single meteor hammer. I have also seen this weapon in use when I visited Shaolin temple a few years ago.
