Net Storage/Tote Bag
Feb 13th, 2013 at 6:36pm

To use for carrying slinging stones simply use a smaller gauge.

This is straightforward net making - no increases or decreases used.
Once my students can tie the sheet bend  http://pineapple.myfunforum.org/about551.html  I have them make a simple net bag like this.
1.  Using the chain start http://pineapple.myfunforum.org/about950.html make a chain 16 meshes long.  I used a gauge 1 1/2" wide
...
2.  Make a panel 30 rows long.
...
3.  On either side take a separate cord.  Count down 5 rows and strung the cord through the side meshes (see top of photo).  Tie the ends of the cord together (see bottom of photo).
...
4.  Take a separaate cord and string it through the end meshes (see top of photo).  Tie the ends of the cord together to form a loop (bottom of photo).
...
5.  Hang the bag by these 2 end loops.  Will hold a lot of onions or potatoes or whatever.
...

This is another great job asemary!
It's always good to see you're active and posting the results of your efforts!
Here in my town we use a tool equal to the one in your first photo to make or repair fishing nets.
I'll move this topic to PW's section and Index too  Smiley

Mauro.

Now I`m sure I`m going to learn how to make nets before I die Wink
I made my first fumbling piece right now, with kitchen twine.  And for the first time ever have I used the net repair needle/gadget (or tool, as Mauro said) I found in a drawer somewhere ages ago.

Watching this thread I suddenly figured it is particulary silly that I, of all people, can`t make nets Cheesy

Thanks for all the comments guys.  If you want to explore the craft further go to the net making forum http://pineapple.myfunforum.org/index.php?c=7  where there over a dozen netting related topics to explore.  Tony

I just leaned how to net last weekend...it's very meditative.  I made a very crude shuttle from PVC.

Thanks to asemery`s teaching, and wth an additional class by Caldou I`m now able to make nets.  First I made some initial fumbling with white cotton twine, then I staggered my way further with thin jute twine before I finally was able to make a small piece of fine netting, with all masks of equal size and an understanding of what goes where when.   Not a storage bag yet but I can do it now.

And closer.  It would not lay flat, but it is really symmetric.
Thanks to those who made this possible, I have known the basic idea with the sheet bend, but not how to make it become a net.

I'm in the same boat.  It's about time I learned to make a net.  This tutorial explains it very well.

I use a totally different technique. I might get around to making a bad using my technique later, and as far as I can tell, its actually easier.

I made a complete storage net.  Because of my usual reloading tecnique it won`t be wery practical for sling ammo but I could carry other stuff in it.  It is made from thin jute cordage, at least most of it 1,2 millimeter.  My netting needle is small, I think it is made for repairing monofilament freshwater fishing nets.  It would not be practical for thick cordage.  Of course I must whittle a bigger one sooner or later.
Mainly I made this net bag for the bragging rights; Nets?  of course I can make nets Smiley
