Well, more or less
It took me slightly less to make a light but nice javelin. I built two for fantasy purpose
Anyway, here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcO4z-9hLFU&feature=youtu.beThis's what I used:
- a long aluminium rod;
- a wooden bar, squared;
- 2 nails;
- hammer;
- something to beat on;
- clamp;
- electric wheel;
- 2 drills;
- sandpaper.
First you cut your alu rod at the desired legth. Then you hammer one end to make it conical. You pass it on the electric well and the tip's done.
NOTE: use aluminium for a quick and easy work, but the javelin will be light. Use iron for a heavier javelin which will require a bit more attention while making.
Then take the wooden bar, put it in the clamp and make an internal hole, the longer the better.
Force the aluminium rod in this hole, and then use the other drill to practice 2 transverse holes through wood/alu/wood.
You'll put 2 nails in there and bend them on the other end; this will prevent the alu rod to detach.
Smooth the wood's angles with the electric wheel, polish it with sandpaper (which is fundamental: you don't want a chip to pierce your fingers when releasing the javelin, don't you?).
If the rod's bent, unbend it by pressing it.
Enjoy

Mauro.
