what is a 'non-complex projectile' ?

Gien that there are two distance levels - what is and isn't allowed.
ie: what is a complex projectile and what is a non-complex projectile.

And why do we need two different distance awards ?

A rock.  Tongue

Something non laser guided or with fins maybe. Valid question.  Smiley

A ball or glans as opposed to a more complex dart with fins?

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

For the purposes of those merit awards, I defined a non-complex projectile as one that had no air-foil structures or devices designed to grant or add lift to the projectile.  For instance, no darts (air foils), rings (basically is an air foil), disks (also one big air foil), or rocket propelled glandes (doubt this would be an actual problem, but you never know with modern slingers), etc.
    However, I must admit that I'm starting to question whether or not it necessary to have two separate distance categories.  The initial idea was to have them seperate so that one would be the "pure" distance category...  You know, the one where you got to 400 meters just because you're just that good.  The other category would be the one with the "wow" factor.  Could you imagine;
C_A :  "you're telling me you launched something 600 meters, LightSlinger?!"
LS:  "yeah buddy!  The first two hundred was all me, then the fuze hit that igniter, and Wooossh!  400+ meters like that!" *snaps fingers*

I thought of this actually!  In fact, you and Atlatlista were the inspiration for a couple of the merit achievements in the Promotion Category!  If I had to put the slingers guide in a specific category though, I think I would call it at least a level 4 activist achievement for the main organizer.  It's a pretty huge undertaking with multiple slingers working together on it.  I would have to review the other slingers' involvement to rate their achievements.
Whoo!  Gonna be fun I think!

okay - so where you have categories - please state clearly what they are Thumbs Up

Lets face it larry bray sent a rock (and I have held that rock in my very own hand) 437 metres.

david engvall used a captive pouch sling, and an end release dart for 477 metres.

Both missiles were recovered.

Yurek hit a metal bridge at 500 metres with a lead glande which was not recovered.

I say allow any object that does not have it's own onboard propulsion system.

If you can succesfully launch an aerofoil from a sling you deserve all the credit you can get.

I thought that I had included these definitions In the merit awards description.  Maybe not though.  I will check on this later tonight and fix any missing stuff..  And I'm okay with consolidating the distance category..  I can do this later tonight as well..

I have a problem with that.
those of us slinging because it is cheap do not have access to lead, etc and that can mess us up.
Stones fly shorter distances that lead.
Anyway.... I think we need to have some sort of markings so someone cannot just re-post a picture that is already on slinging.org and  claim it.
Also- I think that we need to set a standard.
Like X meters with a golfball, or something like that.
Else my 200g lump of glanea might fly farther than your 100g lump of pumice.
For the same sling, same cast.
And those of less physical stature might be at a disadvantage....
Also awards for wierd things?
like brick-slings, etc.
great system!
Nice job lightslinger!!

Yeah, some people may have a hard time finding suitable projectiles, but for the most part I think it's at least possible for everyone.  I'll betcha that where you live there are fishing supply stores..   Fishing Supply stores = lead glandes.  And they aren't super expensive I don't think.  Really, nobody is going to be able to achieve the highest levels without some effort, sacrifice and discipline.  That's the point.
For example, if you and I were neighbors with the same economics and environment, we have access to the same types of projectiles.  But, if I'm willing to ride my bike 8-10 miles to get good stones, well, then I am putting out extra effort.

How bout biking 20 miles on highways to get some super-expensive ammo that will last one shot?
5 bucks is extremly expensive for ammo for me.
But i agree.
I am part of a small minority....
I will do my best to get some lead.
Anyway, Can you try to standardize the lead?
And what about tungentsten...
Anyway, I think you should put a distance for a certian size stone.
I will do my best to get some lead
Thanks!

Yeah, I know...  The old Cliche' is certainly true..  "You can't make everybody happy...  Not even part of the time!"    I'll probably never make Inventor 4 either...  I just don't have the mechanical aptitude neccessary to make it work..

I really want to get slinger..
Could you make provisions for x weight and type of stone?
And can we use staff slings?
I can easily hit 300 meters with a 6 foot staff sling and 6 foot sling.

I would fully understand how much work you do...
If it is anything like my work as a server moderator on a 25-player minecraft server (thats average.
It can spike to well over 100) then its A LOT
