Homemade slingshot crossbow
Dec 16th, 2012 at 12:35pm

I made this today, not very strong but it works. In the future I hope to make a stronger one.
It's a design I made myself. My first plan was to make a real crossbow but I failed, so I used rubbertubing and this is alot easier.
It's not really a crossbow, more a slingshot crossbow.

Well, it holds the ''bow'' against the frame and it also holds the rubber tubing in place.
I could just tie or glue the bow to the frame, but I like it this way more. It looks alot cooler and this way I can (dis)assemble the slingshot bow very easy.

I'll see if I can get a pic of what I mean, it's kinda hard to explain.

Here is how the rubber tubing is kept in place. This way when the string is pulled back the rubber tubing is pushed tightly against the 'bow'. I came up with it myself.

That is a neat solution, it hold the bow securely but still lets you break it down to transport it.

Here is mine: It shoots 20mm lead balls weighting about 45 grams. Max range is about 250-300m  It brakes 1" pine planks at 10-20 m, sometimes it just leaves big half sphere deep dents in it. You can hear the balls hissing through the air as they fly Cheesy

Made from a crutch, metal pieces. Dokamid rollers turned on a lathe.
It was designed with a magazine, but didn't built that..

Do them years fly by! The slingshotcrossbow I made is long gone. Maybe I still have the video somewhere.

Yours look much more awesome, Jlasud. With the rollers, it must really be effective. Something like a compound slingshot crossbow. How does the trigger system work? I always failed at making a decent trigger system back then.

And it actually has noticeable recoil.
The magazine didn't got made. There is one problem with this one..it eats rubber for some reason. According to Joerg Sprave, roller designs have this fault. Sad

Trigger system as simple as it can be, with least moving parts.
