Weekend with Masi
Aug 5th, 2012, 9:35pm

I was at a bow shoot this weekend, Masi Showed up yesterday and today.  We talked a lot, shot bows, did the 3D course a couple of times, did a little slinging Saturday evening, we weren't all that good but I blame that on the ammo, jagged rocks of all sorts of weight, plus it was getting dark.  We were throwing at a traffic cone about 40 meters away, no hits but lots of really close misses.  Masi ordered a custom bow, it is going to be a fairly light bow, basically to learn the correct form and to build up his back and shoulders, after that, he may get a stronger bow.  He started making his own armguard, I had a piece of scrap leather laying around, so we went to one of the vendors and asked if we could trace one of his onto the leather.  He agreed so we did.  Another vendor had a leather punch that he let Masi use to punch his holes for the buttons to use to lace it closed.

So, come the first weekend in Sept, Masi should be shooting his new bow while wearing his new armguard that he made.  He spent a lot of time talking to a bow maker, so he is getting started on becoming an archer as well as a slinger.  I had a great time and enjoyed the time I was able to spend with him.

You beat me to it! I just got on to start the topic "Bill Skinner is a Good Friend to Have." Bill introduced me to the bowyer, negotiated for the bow, donated the leather and some antler for the arm guard, donated a finger tab to replace oversize one, and let me borrow one of his bows and some arrows to exercise/practice with until I pick mine up in September. Add to that the sling stone he gave me ages ago, the knapping rocks he gave me in July, the spear point he helped me knap then, AND the rocks he gave me this time and you can see that Bill has contributed a lot to my primitive arsenal.

Your both lucky, I would be honored to spend time with either of you.  Especially to get to sling together. That would be great.  Sounds like you both had fun. Hope it wasn't too hot.

It could've been hotter. It was only in the low 90's. (32-33o C) If I'm ever in Cali I'll be sure to let you know well ahead of time to see if we can plan something.

Forgot to mention, that sounds like very good accuracy to me.  You can only do so much with that type of ammo and 40 meters at a traffic cone is tough.

But if we had been throwing at supper, we would not have had any baked traffic cone that night.

You can't win them all I guess.  Smiley  Baked traffic cone is nothing to write home about anyways.
