You can get a clear, unobstructed view so there's no hidden kids/dogs/whatever to accidentally hit. Also, though not impossible, it's difficult to miss a lake.

It's a helluva better beach than atlantic city, less trash, pollution, and trashy people . For slinging I'd recommend Sandy Hook, you can just barely make out Staten island in the background. It's really beautiful, and since there's a lot more beaches, it's easier to find a suitable spot for slinging.
