You should really look into the basic Butanese bow. Theirs are very simlar to this but with bigger bamboo and tapered tips. Also look for something to put on those tips of the arrmes, spent pistol casings work well or you could get a dozen steel blunts from 3R archery for about $5.

If you are also looking into the 'quick bow' area. Check out The Backyardbowyers videos. He makes bows from pvc and the youth recurve cost about a dollar and can be made up to 50lbds. And it can also be made in a mornings work.

The arrows are not the best, but they work for now. I'm still going to buy fieldpoints and shop arrows

And heres a little quiver I made from pvc,

I also forgot to say, the bow is 60 inches long.

Thanks Jauke for the pics and the quick reply!
Do you have any idea how strong is the bow?

Mauro.

Well not really, I guess it's somewhere between 20/30 lbs. I don't have one of those bow scales, will buy one sooner or later

To be honest, I don't know the strength of my bow too... it's just a feeling and I think mine is around 20/30 too.
I tought there was a formula to get a bow's strength...?
Greetings,
Mauro.

I thought the same thing as yew. Yew would think that would be the case, but apparently not  Huh

I will if I get a good piece. I used bamboo because we we have lots of it. Yew is harder to find, it also takes more work

In my youth my father made bows to me and my brother from old bamboo ski poles.  He alwys bought old ski poles from flee markets, just in case, so...   He split them, and cut them in different lenghts and lashed the parts togeter so they ended up thick in the middle and with tapering limbs  I remember those bows as pretty short, but rather good.

This is more or less how the bamboo was lashed together Smiley

I just saw I placed this topic in the wrong section, it should be in ''Other primitive weapons''.

Here's another video of shooting the bow, keep in mind, I just began shooting today, my form is really bad

I just ordered some arrows and field tips, so soon I will make/get better arrows.

Not a bad first try.  You'll learn as you go along.
Couple of hints... Your "fistmele" is too low... That's the distance from the string to the bow when  braced.

Also, your arrows would work better with a lighter gauge of dowel....Those are really heavy for such a light bow.
If you stack up layers of progressively-longer bamboo, you can achieve a nice, efficient bend.

My first bow was made by my dad, who knew nothing of archery.  However, the original "Robin Hood" series with Richard Greene was on TV and I wanted one desperately.   So, he took two pieces of 1" X 1/4" trim material and taped them together, and we made a string from an old piece of fly line.
Thing only pulled 20 pounds, but I got pretty handy with it.
Used to buy arrows one at a time from the local hobby shop for about 75 cents.   If you shoot the same arrow over and over you learn where it hits!

I was about to suggest nesting progressively shorter pieces of bamboo to increase the strength but tinmann beat me too it. As far as a bundle bow goes, I'd think that bamboo would be better than other materials as you can nest it so much more easily.

@Bikewer, Yup I agree the arrows are to heavy, but thats because I made them myself from branches, I will try to make them thinner.

Also, soon I will have carbon arrows so can't wait to try those out.

Instead of making a "true" bundle bow, just do what tinmann suggested. It's essentially an improved bundle bow, only you'd be nesting the split bamboo instead of lashing together multiple clylinders thus giving it an even but more powerful curve. Smiley

It was very easy to make, it took me about 30 minutes I think
I also made the braceheight shorter, now it's more powerful than before.

Yeah I didn't have any other rope so I thought an old sling would do the job.
The quiver is not the best though, I made it a bit to fast and didn't put much attention into it
I use a different quiver now

Yep. A bow without an arrow is just an evenly bending stick. The arrow is a big componenet in effecient archery.

Cool! I have some pieces of split bamboo lying around from a failed project that I couldn't bear to throw away. Now I know what to attempt with them!
