A 7 Strand Sling , Hummmm
Jul 16th, 2012, 1:28pm

Made this using the same technique as a 5 but added two more strands. I very much like the little extra width !

I'm going to make a nail type jig, and by doing so I will be able to make the knots smaller and neater, and keep the pouch webbing more uniform.

I may put a few nail spacers so the pouch looks symmetrical. it is real important to keep the webbing pressed against each other and a jig may help a lot.

Nice.  I've gone as far as nine strands but I guess you have to stop somewhere or it gets ridiculous.  I don't want to nit pick because you made a nice sling that'll work well for you but if you tighten up the weaving you'll get cupping in the pouch, which most people consider advantageous.  If you choose to completely ignore that piece of well meaning advice you'll still be making good slings but I'd suggest at least giving it a try.

Your suggestions are well taken my friend. Yes I did notice that once I started to tighten up or bunch the weave together, the cupping started, I should have done more and really packed it together, but I got lazy.

I'm going our now to pick up a few nails for a jig, then we will see. I hope it will make the sling look better too.

Now I'm tempted to make a sling with the biggest, most impractical pouch I can possibly make Cheesy

I think't you'd have to do 21 strands to have an odd number but it'd probably actually work. It'd probably be around 5inches wide if you used paracord. This would be reasonable for a staff sling but it'd take a ton of cord.  Smiley

Exactly! Then when it's peace-time, or you're standing idle in your army's camp you can play chess on it  Cheesy
