Aussie pouch + ?
Jul 7th, 2012 at 6:18am

I've got two Aussie pouches (Thanks Aussie !).

One has got two nylon cords in the holes, each cord knotted to keep it from slipping out, and this sling is used all the time for tennis balls.

The other I'd like to give to a 9 year old kid. I'd like to do something a bit fancier. I can barely braid 3 strand. Any suggestions, please ?

Do a Peaceful Jeffery or a 5 Strand Sheep Shank and set it up for tennis balls.  His parents will thank you.

A simple reverse twist cord looks cool and is easy and quick. The starting end can then noose back over itself to form the attachment to the sling.

David, how do you do the reverse twist? It looks cool and I would like to try it.

Is this the one where you entwine two strands, all the time twisting to the opposite direction of the twining ?

Pretty much. 'Twist away and pull towards yourself' is pretty much all there is to the reverse twist. I've used the same method with 3 and 4 strands as well and it works just as admirably.

How does it not unravel. Seems like this would.

Before twisting the two strands together each individual strand is twisted in the opposite direction until it wants to kink up. Then the strands are carefully allowed to unwind themselves by wrapping around each other. For this to unravel the strands of paracord would have to twist themselves up again, which is unlikely. Friction holds the strands in place in the middle and a knot keeps the ends together.
Wikipedia explains it like this:
Quote:
Twisted ropes are built up in three steps. First, fibres are gathered and spun into yarns. A number of these yarns are then formed into strands by twisting. The strands are then twisted together to lay the rope. The twist of the yarn is opposite to that of the strand, and that in turn is opposite to that of the rope. It is this counter-twist, introduced with each successive operation, which holds the final rope together as a stable, unified object.

Potter's tutorial for the King Tut shows a two-strand twine pretty clearly. Good way to learn it.

simple and clever Smiley

And a loop at one end for attaching. Hmm, I bought some really thin parocord form one of the pound shops. Might try this with it  Smiley
