Rip Bilbo, Goodbye friend
Jun 29th, 2012, 11:11am

Just got back from the vets. Poor sod got a twisted gut.
Same way our first spinone went.
The whole stomach somehow twists round, cuts of blood supply and blocks the gut. Unfortunately you can't really do anything. With his age and heart condition putting him to sleep was the best thing we could do for him.
As soon as we felt his stomach we knew what it was.

God I'm going to miss him.

Raise a glass for my mate (milk preferably) and give your dogs a treat in his honour.
See you in the afterlife mate.
THank you for a lot of happy years.

My most heartfelt sympathies, c_a.  It's a very, very sad day when you loose a great dog.  Keep in mind that you gave him the best life he could have possibly had and remember all of the good times.  RIP, Bilbo.
   How old was he?

Sorry to hear that C_A, Bilbo was a good one.  I don't have a dog anymore, but I'll give a treat to all the ones at customers houses today, and the glass has been raised.

thanks folks.
Really Appreciated.

Not sure phoenix understands. everytime someone comes to the door she goes looking.

Bilbo was the happiest dog we've ever had. No fear of anything - right from a puppy.
Never got frightened, always had a grin, always came to greet you when you got home, loved squeaky toys and food and his late night drink of milk and a cookie.

Unfortunately spinones don't seem to make old bones. Bilbo was 11 1/2
In a peculiar way I suppose it was good for him to go while he still had 100% quality of life. His back legs were getting increasingly wobbly, and even though the tablets seemed to have got the heart thing under control (enlarged). The vet said it was a progressive condition.
So at least he didn't get sick and old.
And he had a smashing walk this morning, barked at lots of people in the drive.

One way or another an awful lot of people are going to miss him.

Slow deaths don't seem to happen in our family/pack. Sudden deaths seem to be the norm.

We all agree - amazing as they are he's got to be our last spinone. 2 for 2 with twisted gut, is 2 too many.

Don't know what we'll have next - but 2 dogs is always better than just one. For us and the dogs.

Sorry to hear about Bilbo, CA. Loss of a family-member type dog is pretty rough. Gastric torsion (what we call it over here) is bad, sometimes repairable with surgery, but it can recur. Not real rare among Akitas; a friend lost her first one to it.

Hope Bilbo's successor is a great dog, too.

I'm sorry to read that, Alex, but I share your belief that we'll meet our dogs afterlife.
He's waiting for you right now, he'll wait for decades, don't worry.
I'd like to be able to write better things but my English is not so accurate; know I raised my glass with Tito, too.
A hug,
Mauro.
