Aluminum work hardens very quickly, depending on the alloy you have, it may crack when you try to punch a hole or when you hammer it flat. Get a small piece and try. If you want to get fancy, you can use a hardened taper punch of the correct size but until you get some experiance, your holes will be different sizes when the punch goes deeper or shallower, that will also crack some of them, also. If a nail will work, it has parallel sides, it will make the same sizes holes. You may want to round the tip of the nail some, the point is stamped and has some edges. If you can clamp 4-10 pieces together, a drill will work much better and a drill press would be the best. How are you going to cut the metal?
