What do you guys think of this?

I think the grounds are a little overboard, unless the girl was being disrespectful all the time to her parents, and this facebook post simply was the last straw. In that case I stand mostly with the parent. Still think shooting things in rage is a little immature...but whatever. I know of a few parents (who I respect) that are pretty tight fisted with their children's Facebook, but I've never really thought of Facebook censorship as being very fair. Plus 15 years old and going to sleep at 10pm? Hell girl, I don't have many chores and I'm up to 1 am just working through my homework and projects.

Oh yeah, this was pretty funny (especially if you have an eastern asian background)

Somehow this is the first time I've ever seen it.  Parenting-wise I'm not sure how effective it is, but it sure is amusing, and the girl definitely had it coming.

Grin All i have to say is go dad. In an age where we are hampered in the sense of how we may and may not discipline our kids ( becoming less and less every year )  i think he did the right thing.

we in SA still have the right to give a smack on the bum at home but it has already been taken away from schools and im sure soon this will become against the law, now i don't believe in abuse at all. but a good smack to the bum helped keep me on the right path and it will do the same for my kids.

this dad rocks

This was on the news awhile ago, and I agree with king hero, good job dad.

Too many fathers aren't taking any role in the kids life and they end up in poor condition.
I was disciplined a lot when I was young, and you know what, it ment I knew what the rules were when I was older and not to cross them. I've a very wide varity of parents as far as strictness goes, and that's more up to them. There may have also have been other things the daughter had done that built up to the shooting. I am pretty sure I wouldn't have done it the same way though.

Just as KH said, Todays society lacks discipline as children. Instead of dealing with it when they are young and spanking them, when they whine we give them video games to keep them happy and occupied. Being a kid, I know that's not a good parenting strategy and would only make my behavior worse.

Kids way underestimate how much their parents do/did for them and now think it's 'cool' and expected to be disrespectfull when they are teens. It's very unfortunate. It's good knowing that there are still some parents that will put their foot down.

What an absolute waste of a lap top. It's a stupid way to send a message, destroying something that can easily be used by someone else etc. Waste of resources is never a good thing.

There's probably some truth to both sides. Personally, I tend to side with the child. Now I didn't watch the entire video, and I haven't a clue of the kids age, but if she's a teenager, you should expect this stuff, quite frankly. I know I was angry when my brother and I had to start doing dishes and mow the lawn and other chores, but I'm clearly over that now, but I'm sure I raised hell when it happened. She simply needs time to understand. Shooting her laptop and grounding her will more than likely cause serious resentment to build, it would for me.

I tend to side with the child as well...when I was really young I hated my parents. For every mistake I made, they spent hours screaming at me and telling me who I was a failure in every way. When studying for algebra if I got a question wrong on a worksheet (all of this was given to me by my parents- nothing from the school so it didn't affect grades) I could get a serious thwacking for it (I usually ended up making the same mistake twice, didn't help much). Or if I said something wrong I was threatened with an avalanche of stuff that I was too young to realize were empty threats.  So when I see someone getting punished on something more menial than that, like a facebook post, I tend to side with the child.

That said, the video did seem to show the girl as being somewhat of an ass, but IDK. If it was just based on two Facebook posts I would have told the girl to grab the computer and hide it in her school locker. If she was really being disrespectful to her parents (which seems to be the case since her parents seemed to love her), then I guess she had something of the like coming.

It's a laptop, not an endangered animal...

My first thought when I saw this video was "well you can certainly see the family resemblance". Using a handgun to destroy a laptop (which you claim you spent hours working on just days ago) to teach your daughter a lesson by posting it on youtube (in response to her complaining about family matters on FB) doesn't strike me as either a good idea or good parenting.  I didn't even find it funny. Stupid parenting + misuse of firearms. Feh. Humans.

Wink Well I still stick to the way I see it.

Also a good spanking is over and done with, I don't believe in "your Grounded " because it never works. I know cause my parents tried that and in the end if I was good for a bit it would be lifted. This way he cant lift it he cant give back the laptop cause its now broken. so even if she fluttered her eyes and made his hart soft its over and done with cant have it back girly.

Also like I said a good smack on the bum and its over, I don't believe in topping over things cause it just builds up and that's not good, also words has a longer lasting effect than a smack on the bum, but the dad never verbally abused her in the video he just punished her good.

one thing I can say thou, He and his wife are both to blame for what she did, raise them right from small and you don't have to be so drastic, but then again its not fair for me to comment that cause I cause I don't know anything about being divorced and it might have been tough, so ya
