I hope it's ok,that i start a new topic about this,i've been searching without much success, the discussion about the sound of lead glans. C_A if i remember correctly ,stated that they sound like bees.I replied that, smooth, symmetrical ones don't have much noise, besides some silent SHHH noise. Yesterday me and a few friends went to nice lake, and i took the 3 lead glans (57g) i had in the moment, painted 2 of them black and one red for better visibility in the air,as i never done that before. The paint job did a nice work, they were much easier to see, even the guys in the back saw them,at least sometimes. So from now on,all the distance lead will be painted black.
The second thing was, that i never really heard much sound from the exactly same ammo, same sling before, but somehow,i guess the lake or the large crater in which it is located made it hearable. They sounded like a small rocket,or a bullet through the air,a silent SHHHHHHHHH I was amazed, surprised as i've slung dozens of the same ammo, same sling,no audible sound.
The third thing shocked me and surprised my friends..Besides the impacts (Deadly impacts)at loong ranges were nicely visible, and audible ,in a ~8m (25feet) radius we could see tiny splashes around, like 20-30 of them, instantly. My first reaction was WOOOW,and though it's the water drops made those tiny splashes. After the second and third shots,i noticed that they appear INSTANTLY as the gland hits the water,so the up flying and dropping back droplets were no more a plausible explanation. A friend told me,that they may be the small fishies that swim close to the surface, get scared and quickly sail away. This is the only plausible explanation i could get so far,to this strange phenomen. I was slinging 3\4 across the lake ,without optimal terrain and warm up,and after arriving home,i measured the distance and it was about 320 meters. This pretty much corresponds with my estimate that i can surely get 350m,but until now i had no means to measure it,just judge it from sight, and experience, and the quite precise distance estimating ability i developed (probably many here)through slinging and measuring distances on google earth.(Probably many here) DEFINITELY i'm going to make some more distance slinging on a closer lake with a 500m dam. I'm quite confident i could reach close to 400m with ideal launch elevation, and with a much more turned body rotation than i did yesterday. I'm curious if you guys had some similar experiences with the story above. Yurek,C_A surely have something to say..
