Rat Man Slinging.org Moderator Slinging Rocks! Posts: 9442 Gender:	Beryl May 26^th, 2012, 11:13am Meet subtropical storm Beryl. He's supposed to go inland for a bit then move back out into the Gulf Stream and reform and intensify. After this occurs he may threaten us here in the Delaware Valley. The thing is that he's the 2nd named storm and it's not even hurricane season yet. I don't know if this is significant or not... we'll see.

Posts: 1350	Re: Beryl Reply #2 - May 26^th, 2012, 11:18am The NOAA is sort of arbitrary about seasons, the deadliest tornados in Alabama have all happened either before or after the official tornado season. And they haven't been remotely close about hurricanes for a while, they have been over or under estimating them. The Farmers Almanac is usually much more accurate.

Well I'm right here in the middle of it.It should make landfall,if you want to call it that,right about now.The winds are switching between north east and north west and blowing 15-25,with gusts at 30.The surf is side shore and a strong northerly current.I was going to paddle out but it is too disorganized and the peaks are everywhere.It looks to be about 2 to 4 feet overhead on the sets with a period of maybe 10 seconds.Yesterday was phenomenal in the morning hours,waist to chest high, on the sets a little bigger,offshore,78 degree water temp,breaking top to bottom in the shape of a little a frame.I got shacked

.The dolphins were surfing with us and the rays were jumping constantly.

Speaking of weather it's 94 F. here in sunny South Jersey right now. 94 isn't necessarily killer hot, but it's just too early. It usually doesn't get that hot here until after the 4th of July. No one is acclimated to this. My poor Huskies still have half of their winter coats. Anyway that's my weather report for the day. We're still keeping an eye on Beryl.

I just drove through the outer bands of Beryl. She rained a lot, but almost no winds at the fringe. On the fairly weak end for a tropical storm. So long as she doesn't move too far inland into New Jersey you'll be absolutely fine.

P.S.- Beryl is a woman's name, CA. In the (rural) southeastern US it's pronounced "burl." In the rest of the English speaking world it follows the rules of pronunciation and sounds like "bear-ill."

The current prediction is that she'll get pushed out, away from us here in New Jersey. Atlatlista, yes, that's why we have boy hurricanes. It's sexist to just have only female hurricanes.

Well overnight she finally moved away.The rain meter looks a hair shy of 4 inches.The loggers came yesterday and removed the broken parts of my cedar.I had to argue with the property manager,she intended to have the whole tree cut down.Anyhow,we survived one of the most direct hits we've taken in recent years.

Masi,it was actually on the strong end for a tropical storm,we nearly got hurricane force winds right here where it came ashore.
