Quote from Thearos on May 22nd, 2012, 1:31pm:
I saw the slings exhibit and wanted to photograph for this site-- but never got round to it. Thanks are owed to wanderer. They also have a couple of sling bullets in very poor shape. Actually, their site also has a catalogue for most (all ?) of their holdings.

Thanks to Aussie for kind words.

I'm glad there is a local representative  Wink. I regret the poor quality of the pictures. I had camera problems which prevented me getting better ones when I visited again a few days later. I never managed to visit it before the renovation.

Aussie, I join with Thearos in thanking you for your words.

Mauro, I reacted particularly favourably to this museum because the modern trend appears to be remove many articles from display in order that the curator might "tell a story" through a limited number of carefully chosen items - at least that's an almost verbatim quote from a museum of which I am also rather fond.

Sometimes I'm not sure I want to listen to the story the curator wants to tell Smiley. I think both kinds of approach are valuable - they just appeal to different kinds of visitors.

I agree with Wanderer that obstrusive curatoring, rather than presenting, can be v. annoying

Me too.
The best in my opinion would be a case that tells me what's in, using the simplest terms, and allowing me to speculate on them.
A Museum that makes me want more, for like somebody said "Culture is like an apple, once you had one, you want another".
Greetings,
Mauro.

What a great display, the only slings I saw at a local museum were more ceremonial than functional.
