Going Camping

Up until yesterday it looked like I wouldn't be able to go, but the last obstacle has apparently been removed. It looks like I'll be spending a week in the Alleghenies. I leave on Monday of next week and return on Sunday, the 20th. I didn't want you all to think I forgot about you. The only fly in this ointment is that Kali and Odin won't be going. We're all sort of joined at the hip and I know from experience that I'll be missing them badly as soon as the first night. Being disabled and home all of the time I become overly attached to my fur babies. Anyway, it's a beautiful place not far from Emporium, Pa., near State College. It's very wild out there, often with fifty miles between towns. I'm looking forward mostly to viewing the stars. Away from all light pollution you can even see satellites or the ISS with the naked eye. The stars actually have depth and there's not one square inch of sky without thousands of them. Shooting stars are often seen, usually several a night. It's quite a sight.

The land is a little peninsula of private land that sticks way up into Sproul State Forest. I'm not really sure who owns the land but Patrick has unlimited use. Who ever owns it, they must know somebody, because it really is a sweet piece of land, with state forest all around. This will be my fourth time up there.

Thanks, guys. I'm back now. I had a great time. I'll be posting pictures from the trip here and there on slinging.org. I was mistaken.. the land I camped on is near Sproul State Forest. It's actually in Sinnemahoning State Park:

Below is a picture of the gas/oil pipelines cutting their way through the mountains near our campground. I actually will have a chance to buy into this land shortly. It's an incredibly beautiful place, but it's an eight hour drive away, one way. I'm just not up for that sort of driving anymore.

I've been out there a few times. I just love these Woods. I know the plants, the wildlife, the good bow woods, the terrain, and the tactics you use when out in the woods because it's where I've grown up. And you are also in bear and elk country up there, which is cool.
