hello from staffordshire
May 9th, 2012, 5:51pm

well I stumbled on this site by accident a month or so ago. I've been lurking in the back ground and reading lots of the topics on here. well I never knew there was this much to slinging, I remember messing about with a sling when I was 10 or 11 (just a few yrs ago  Wink) but had never thought about them since in any real context, I can now say that my appitite has been wetted. I have even started reading "The sling for sport and survival" on ebook, there is a couple of lads at work who've shown interest  Cool
Thank you for a very informative site, and allowing me to be a part of it. hopefully I will have a go at making a sling this weekend.  Cool

well I started to have a go at making a braided sling, following the instructions on the how to pages by Dan Bollinger. Then I found out I can't baid  Roll Eyes. So I had a go at the simple sling by Chris Harrison using a long boot lace and some leather I'd cut from some old furniture a while ago.

I had a try at the weekend, I took it down to a local lake to try. As I'd convinced myself I'd read all about how to do it, I was, to say the least, a bit shocked when I could only hit the lake and not the target on the lake I was aiming for. More practice less reading I think.

Well hitting a lake shows that you're better than me, I can actually only hit the Adriatic Sea which is bigger than a lake, and easier to hit.
Well done!
Mauro.

I personally am on the more reading end of the spectrum  .. my braids didn't start looking at all good until about my 5th or 6th ... I'm still not braiding anything that resembles a work of art .... persist and the braids will happen

When I first started, I would have had to go to the middle of the lake to make sure that I hit it.  Tennis balls went every way but forward.  Welcome to the site, stick around for a while.

Hi, surplus6;
Welcome aboard.  Steven is right; just keep braiding and it will happen.  My first few atempts were quite pathetic.

well after talking to a friend at work who plays golf, I've just been given a bag of around 200 balls free. they're cheap brands he's picked up over a while and doesn't like playing with them. So free ammo for me  Cool Grin

Lucky!  Now you will have to make a sling especially for slinging golf balls.  A leather pouch like Greenmans' or one of David Morningstars will work nicely.

golf balls are fun.
The hard part is getting them to fly straight Smiley

I've always got a bag full in the car Smiley

Although the person I got them off has a new dog now and it doesn't collect golfballs like the old one did Smiley
So once they're gone, they're gone lol

well I have to make a second sling now, the one I'd made is a little small (and/or the leather a little soft) for golf balls. I had a pair of spare work boots in my locker, that seemed to have "appered" in my shed at home. The nice thicker leather looks like it can be persuided to become part of MKII sling. I think a bit of braiding may even be attempted!!!!!!

If you can master the golf balls' rotation you'll find that absolutely nothing flies farther.  They're my favorite ammo for just fun.  A pure backspin will send them over the hills and far away!
