Yesterday I made my first slingshot, I know its not the prettiest but it's really comfortable and it feels great.
I have no idea which wood it is made of but it's pretty light.
 
 
 

 
I don't have any bands for it yet, thera band is pretty expensive here and I haven't found a good shop where I can buy it, hope to get it someday  

you can start by using lots of ordinary elastic bands.  
 
hooked together and used many strands thick you'll be surprised how much power you can generate.  
 

 
if you use the thickest ones you don't need too many.  
 
this type are pretty good.
