Can you provide us pics of the section of the tapestry where this club has been used?
Do you mean the one used by the bishop?
Greetings,
Mauro.

For some killer medieval clubs, I'd recommend perusing the Maciejowski bible.  At one point the images were available online, they may still be.

And what do you talk about in Norman's club? War?
Grin

Seriously: there are medieval maces in our Museums, it just depend on which kind are you interested in: mace heads? Full Metal Mace? bishop's wooden maces? Tell us!

Mauro.

the normans came from normandy, also being more known as vikings, the club is wooden, and i can not post pictures right now because my camera is charging so i will post them tomorrow. and mauro this club was used by infantry, not the bishop.

In the movie "Warlord" from 1965, with Charlton Heston as the Norman Warlord. He has a bodyguard played by Richard Boone, who is armed with a large wooden war club carved with a face similar to the faces seen on Druid carved stones. As I recall, it was a really neat weapon. Smiley

So you're talking about bishop Oddone, Duke Wilhelm's brother!
He's wielding a Mediterranean style mace, an iron flanged one, like these you can find in many Arabic Museums.
The Duke himself wields a "baculus", the Latin term for club, which is a stasus symbol that has very ancient origins (Greeks and early Italic people used it, just think about Hercules' olive club).
It's not so hard to make such a mace especially if you use bronze for it. Actually, I'm going to make an iron one, but still have to find the right ingot.

Mauro.

Yes, that's the "baculum". That's really easy to make, just get an olive or oak brach!

Mauro.

The bottom end of a young tree would work nicely too.

It is.  You simply hit an enemy in the head with it and he`ll be as peaceful as you can wish for.  Can`t get more symbolic than that.

Actually, it's just another example about how Christianity adopted oldest symbols and translated them in a totally different way.
That's why we have churches built on ancient pagan temples everywhere here in Italy.
And on a side, did you know that "pagan" comes from "pagi"? "Pagi" was the archaic term for "villagers": during the first years of Christianity these villagers were the last people to be converted, because they were phisically far from the main towns, where were churches and priests: they continued celebrating ancient gods and that's why first priests addressed to them as pagi -> pagus -> pagans = those who celebrate ancient gods.
Greetings,
Mauro.
