If that poor beast has to suffer and die at least it will be for a useful purpose. Hunting like that would be very interesting.

Good demo of proper harpoon usage.
Heavy shaft and detatchable, barbed head with line attached to create drag and marker.
The harpoon shown below should never, repete; NEVER be used for hunting seal. (Teliban, Yes! Seals, NO!)

Dispatch by rifle was good idea.
Continued stress of the animal toughens the meat and a bow might not have been as swift.
This is a harvest after all, not sport.
