My Slinging rig pics
Mar 23rd, 2012 at 2:03pm

This is my Slinging Rig. The sling cords are 6mm braided nylon. Notice how the cords are attached. I pull them through, make a knot and melt the tip to stop it from coming loose. Makes for a release as smooth as 4 fingers of Jack Daniels over lots of ice. No snagging. Ever.

The pellet pouch is an old 5L plastic paint can with an 8 ton cargo strap for a shoulder strap that carries the whole set up comfortably on the hip. The pouch carries about 100 pellets and has a 10m measuring tape at the bottom for measuring distance.

I use a heavy duty 5mm polyplastic board with a 5L ice cream tub lid in the middle for a bullseye as a target.

Using this rig, i can hit the target with 75 - 80% accuracy from 40m away with enough force to knock a 5 inch dent (1 inch deep) in a car door.

I make the pellets from compacted concrete. I mix sifted sand, fine gravel and cement to make a concrete with a soft putty texture. I roll pellets while slowly pressing the concrete to compact it. I place the rolled and pressed pellets on a flat sponge to help keep the shape. When the pellets have dried in the sun for an hour. I pack them in a black trashbag, seal the bag airtight and leave it in the sun for a few days.

This lets the pellet set and harden slower, making the pellet harder.

After a few days, i remove them from the bag and leave to dry in the sun until they are dry.

I mix 50/50 acrylic paint and acrylic sealer and roll the pellets in the mix, take them out to dry and then repeat the process. When the pellets are dry, igo slinging.

I don't have anything to make a vid to post on YouTube, so i will ask around for one of my friends to record it on his camera or whatever and i'll upload it. Will let you know when it's there.

Sorry if I missed something but did you say what kind of ammo that is? Are those like rusty balls? Also, would love to see some videos of you slinging. Sounds like you are seriously into target slinging.  Cheesy

That's a nice setup. Compact and simple, like a kit.

The balls are compacted concrete.  He PMed me a few days ago and told me about them.  It seems like you've given this a lot of thought, Greenman.  You've got it boiled down to everything you need and nothing you don't!

How can one compact concrete? Like pressing it while wet?
