I agree. Though I wouldn't be surprised if we are the minority in that sentiment. Not everyone believes the people should be trusted to be able to defend themselves and their rights. I have a relative that believes all guns should be taken away from citizens. This same person has also told me in all seriousness that money is the key to all happiness. Not sure if that is an insight into that mindset. I don't know... People can be strange sometimes...

I agree that a firearm kept in the house is 100% justifiable, and I've been known to keep a knife with me for walking some of the streets at night (never had to use it, but better safe than sorry, no?) but I think carrying heat in public is, to be quite honest, a) dangerous and b) has the whiff of paranoia and distrust about it. I've always believed that the populace en masse should be armed in some manner, but not to use against each other - rather to defend themselves from foreign invaders or oppressive governments.

I pretty much agree with all of this. Of course, a gun in the house is also for defense against burglars.

Spiders, really? Man, you guys are really good at thread drift. Tongue

Guns make things better, no doubt. Pretty much everyone I know agrees with that. And the ones that don't usualy forget that criminals are by definition criminals and that they will break the law to get their hands on weapons or whatever. Weapons restricitions only apply to the people that might actually need those weapons for defence against the nefarious belligerents of society.

Chowitzer, both reasons, foriegn and domestic defence are good reasons to own guns. Citezens in Arizona and the other states where our southern border is "well guarded" actually have to do both.

Guns have changed history (well really gunpowder but still). Whether for the better or not I am not arrogant enough to say.

I do think it is wise to learn to use them and own them. I don't agree with everyone carrying one, but I think that anyone who learns safety and proper use should be able to do so. They aren't going away and since that is the case it is wiser to responsibly own one (or more) than try to make them disappear.

But with the specter of giant spiders, can I get an exoskeleton and a chainsaw instead? I'm not concerned about responsible spider owners, but what about aggressive spiders not properly trained?

Never leave a loaded firearm or untrained spider just laying around. Just don't do it.

As for carrying a weapon, I don't think that everyone should carry one in as much as your choice to carry one should not be in the hands of a local magistrate. Crimminals are always going to carry, they don't care and law abiding citizens continue to pay the price. The use of lethal force to protect your life and the lives of those that depend on you should never be restricted in any society.

The seeds for revolution can be sewn when a government, government at all levels no longer cares about the basic needs of its population and as stated earlier in this thread when the population feels they no longer have anything to loose. If the people feel they have the strength and support to change their fate through outright revolution and when they can no longer take what is being thrust at them by their government, they will revolt.

Finally, I like thread drift.
