Apparently this ship inherited its name from a previous ship which had catapult launched aircraft.

I want this as a badge now  Cool

"DEBELLARE SUPERBOS"

Quote:
The official design approved for the aircraft carrier 'SLINGER' - designed by Sir Arthur Cochrane and approved as an Admiralty Sealed Pattern on September 1st 1943. The approved motto, translates as "To overcome the proud "

Very odd grip - but probably just artistic licence Smiley

That kind of grip is really used by some slingers. We were talking about different grips with Luis Pons. He showed also that one among others. The difference was that he put the finger loop on the small finger. Also the slinger from Uruguay used that kind of grip.

...

BTW, on the picture (taken by Juan) below Luis demonstrates the typical grip from Menorca, where he is from.

In the shape, structure and position of each stone, there is recorded a small piece of history. So, slinging them, we add a bit of our history to them.

Very cool, David! I´ll keep it in my archives for when I expand the appendices of the history of the sling. The grip of the sling in the badge is very interesting. I think that the retention cord does not finish in a ring but is coiled around the ring finger, the release cord is shorter and its end is not visible, and the two cords goes inside the hand and are attached together between thumb and index. It is a grip that I have used frequently. Also it is peculiar that the sling is a sort of cloth of a piece, wider at the center to form the pouch, what is more evident in the unofficial design. It would be very interesting to know where the authors of the badge were inspired.

Yurek: This clutch kind is used very often to Ibiza.

I also tried them. It is astonishing which one can also shoot very heavy stones in this manner.

The hand feeling is really very good.

Do you think they'd allow a bunch of us onboard for a tour, and a slinging session?
