Hello from Norway
Nov 13th, 2011, 3:19pm

Hey!
I live in Oslo, Norway, and found this site by completely by accident. I was instantly intrigued, and started braiding my first sling the very same day. I've lurked for some time and really appreciated the tutorials and articles on the site, so thought it was time to sign up.

Welcome.  I am a Norvegian, and live not all that far away, in Bærum.  Slinging is fun but not all that common around here.
Derfor er det greit å bruke Engelsk som fagspråk Smiley

Hei timann! Gøy med andre nordmenn her. Dessverre dårlig med rund, fin stein her.

Anyway, here's my latest sling:

Welcome and a very nice sling.  It seems as if everyone is making that type of sling, I always chickened out because I thought it would be difficult to make.  I think that I will give it a try pretty soon.

So you made it back Smiley  Nice sling you got there.  Don`t seem bad at all Wink

Welcome, norvegian slinger ^^

I have a question for you : where should I go to sling next time I'm in Oslo ? I can bring my own tennis balls, but then I would not sling them at the fjord...
I found one little stony beach along the Akerselva but it is very narrow Smiley
Maybe Karl Johans' gate, it's wide and large enough, and in july empty enough Tongue

Thanks!

Caldou: Karl Johan would indeed be perfect (except for the royal guard in one end and the junkies in the other). Can't think of any good spots in central Oslo (maybe a fenced sports field if slinging tennis balls). Otherwise Bygdøy maybe, or a trip out in Marka.

I usually just sling rocks on the beach though.

Lauk, that is a very nice sling!

I would very much like to learn how make one like it. I have seen Timothy Potters' description for a similar sling (also at his own site), but he doesn't (except for the braiding) show how to make the pouch bicolored - and I am severely challenged, when it comes to weaving.

Do you by chance have a link to a description?

Thanks, but try the link behind "similar sling" in my previous post Wink

What I would like, is a description of how to make it bicolored, like the one Lauk has made. Most likely pretty darn simple, but if I could avoid messing it up again and again ...

Edit: ah! Found the description of how to make contrasts at the end of TP's article. Had only read parts of the text, until now. I'll need to run through it tomorrow. I don't think I'll risk making one for the SITH though.

I basically follow Timothy Potters tutorial. With that sling, i started left to right, weaving in two dark and two light strands (for the cords) through the whole warp. Then i started the hourglass shape with a single long light strand. When about a quarter of the way, i tied the weft strand around a warp strand and pulled it through, out the side of the pouch. Then introduced a dark strand the same way, in through the side, and weaved the middle section of the pouch. And repeated the process on the other side.
Also, remember that the warp will be visible at the edges, so use the right colour. I can post some pictures next time I make one.

With small variations it's easy to make different patterns:
(the left one is an experiment with assymetry, ie. skipping more warp strands on one side of the pouch - tried to get more of a leaf shape, didn't really work out)
