Snowball fight safety?
Nov 2nd, 2011 at 7:03am

I was thinking of slinging snowballs this winter, and I have the desire to use my buddies as targets.  Long-range snowball fight Smiley  Anyone think this is unsafe? I don't want to hurt anybody or get hurt!  I know Jaegoor slings balloons, but his friends are in armour.

Slinging wet and hard against buddies isn't a good idea. They can hurt even when thrown by hand. Just sling light and soft ones gently and high.

As said, dont pack them too tight, but some nice light/standard ones are fine. They just need to be packed enough not to break up, but dont feel the need to throw ice balls at each other Wink
I remember last winter having a sling fight with my brother using snow at about 15m apart. I got him twice, once in the head and he was fine after it, but as I say keep them soft lol

One thing you will find aswell, you will get deadly cold hands doing this! I dont know any gloves that you can wear and still sling, and it takes two hands to make a snowball. Its worth it, just to get using the sling like this, but have something warm for when youre done lol

Like the others said, keep them soft.  Slush balls and ice balls can be as bad as rocks, but a regular snowball is fine.  You will be the terror of all non-slinging snowball throwers.  You'll have more than twice their range plus much more accuracy.  I find seatbelt slings ideal for this job, though any sling with a big pouch will do.

I suspect it has to be a closed pouch design, and not an open pouched design however, from a structural integrity standpoint. I'd test it, but I'm in Japan currently, and the odds of getting any snow worth speaking of are looking pretty slim.

I use an aussie pouch, which is somewhere between the two.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

I've also used an Aussie pouch for snowballs.  It worked great.

never had any difficulties with slung snowballs or iceballs for that matter, but i would be more careful with the latter. you've probably got at least a jacket on, if not a parka, so the most of the impact will be absorbed, unless you get hit in the eye (it hurts), or face area.

use common sense. if there is any doubt, take it the safe way.

yep aussie pouches are great for snowballs as they do not absorb water.
all cord or leather based slings tend to get very wet, very quickly Smiley
