Would knitting wool work for braiding a sling?

It sure would. Just get some wool yarn and have at it. The softer yarn is not as easy to work with as the courser rougher itchier stuff.

Knitting yarn will work fine for making a sling, and I've used it for several myself. When I braid with knitting yarn, I often use two or three pieces of yarn for each strand in the braid so that the sling is stronger without me having to use more complicated braid. Because of its greater thickness, I prefer rug yarn for slings rather than knitting yarn, but it's more expensive, and I have to order it since it's not usually available at local yarn and craft stores.

Yeah it depends on what sort of braid you are doing. I find worsted weight works great for 16 strand Peruvian braids and gives a good sized cord that is not too big or too small. Some day I may try some 32 strand braids and try some sport weight yarn to accomplish them. Unfortunately my wife's allergic to sheep's wool and the alpaca wool I've found available is too soft, from baby alpaca's, to work as good as the synthetic stuff I've used.

Thanks, everyone! I'll look to see what I can find.
My wife used to do a lot of knitting, but discovered that she is allergic to wool! It won't be a problem as long as she is not handling it.
I'll give it a try!!
