Dying to know
Sep 28th, 2011, 5:11pm

Been slinging off and on since I was a kid and have just become rabidly involved again.  I make plaited slings starting with 4 plait for finger loop, folding to 8 doubles and do 3 warp woven split pouches and a drop taper on the release cord.  My release knot is a chinese crown sinnet.  BUT, I make them all out of gutted para-cord.  Does anyone else do this, are they too stretchy, or am I alone in this World.  Clue me in................

I've seen it done before, gutted and ungutted. As long as it works for you its right.

I've used parachute cord a couple of times with the cores removed and I like it just fine, although I haven't used it exactly the same way you do. I like to braid coreless paracord in round braids, like 4, 6, or 8 strand braids, for cords and in flat braids for loops and pouches. Here's a link to an old thread where I posted pictures of a sling I made with coreless paracord:

See,  Just goes to show you it's better to check in with everybody first.  I thought I invented the gutted para-cord sling.  Oh well, I guess I'll start working on the two color jute sling, I know that's never been done before..................  I appreciate you guys answering me and TP that whip sling rocks the house!  I do 6 and 8 plait, but I just double the cords.  You've inspired me to delve into the "more than four" braiding mysteries.  I gotta tell ya, I just love this forum.  I tell people that these are the guns of the future as well as the past.  Imagine it, an absolutely lethal hunting/defensive weapon made out of string, and all your ammo lies on the ground waiting to be picked up.  Thanks again guys,

lol yeah we're all 'inventing' sling related things that eventualy turn out to have been around for ever.

Given the sheer longevity and history of the sling - it's doubtful anyone will ever truly invent anything new.

And paracord's been around 50 yeras plus I think. So the odds are someone somewhere's thought to use it like you did Smiley

2 color jute, flemish bowstring loop for the finger loop, 6 strand reverse twisted cords, woven rockman type pouch.

A while ago one of our members, RJB, sent me a sling made of gutted paracord.  I still have the sling and absolutely love it.  I've never made one from gutted paracord  myself, but I'll have to give it a try.
