just got a gladius sword

hey all. this might not qualify as a "primitive" weapon..lol...i was debating on posting this in other topics. anyway, i just got a new cold steel gladius machete in today. this thing is awesome. it has a nice thick sturdy blade. it's made with a full tang of 1055 high carbon steel.  very very tough design. it has a good thick blade. it cuts like a champ. i would have no qualms about carrying it in the woods as both a utility cutting tool for cutting firewood and for clearing brush, or as a defense weapon. it is very well balanced and just feels good in the hand. i am having trouble finding my cable lately to link my camera to my comp or i'd post pics of mine. here is a video on it though and a link to the site for more pics. anyway i like this thing so i thought i'd post on it.

I was actually just thinking about this, I heard mixed reviews so I wasn't really sure on the exact qualoty of the blade, normaly I am a big cold steel fan but machetes have a tendency to be very cheaply made, what's your opinion on the quality of the blade.

BTW that would look totaly BA on your hip when you are just hiking through.

the balance point is about 2 1/2 inches above the hilt on the blade. The blade seems to be very good quality. it has a good weight to it. not too heavy but definitely heavy enough. in one of the cold steel demos they take one of their machetes and clamp it into a vice. they grab the handle and bend it around nearly 180 degrees. for a blade as stiff as these are that's pretty strong.

It's certainly "sturdy" looking, I'll grant you!  Smiley

I really like the all-black construction and a big ball pommel to stop your hand from slipping.

I was wondering though as to its practical use when trekking as most bush and jungle knives tend only to have one edge and are not as pointed. I was thinking about that top edge coming back at you if the blade rebounds off something. Did you consider modifying it at all to add a leather thong/lanyard? Perhaps that's just overkill maybe. Anyhoo, have fun with your blade!  Smiley

This has nearly anything you can imagine.  I kind of like the karambit knife, the trench tomahawk, and the kukri machete.

That's definitely a good looking blade, leadrocks.  I wouldn't mind having that with my camping equipment.  I want the job at Cold Steel like the big guy has where you get to stab, slash, bash and smash stuff all day.  I'll bet that guy comes home from work and he's a sweet as pie because he's already gotten all of his aggression out..
