My first Slings
Sep 6th, 2011 at 10:34am

So this weekend I worked on a sling.... my first attempt was a failure, I way underestimated the required materials, it looks nice I think, but a 1 foot sling doesn't get alot of oomph....

Thanks Mauro... I'll definately keep practicing and I'll be examining some vids to see the best method for throwing. So far I'm lucking if the ammo stays in the pouch until release.

That's a cool idea for pouch Cuallaidh. Much better than my first slings. Like the ammo pouch as well.

The ammo pouch was a gift for teaching a class on Medieval ball making at an SCA event a few months back. It seemed like a great bag to use for ammo Cheesy

Really beautiful slings. I wonder why they are so short Smiley

In the shape, structure and position of each stone, there is recorded a small piece of history. So, slinging them, we add a bit of our history to them.

Thanks.... really underestimated how much shrinkage happens when I braid, The longer of the two has five strands that started out at 14 feet long (course the fold over after doing the finger loop, so I guess that's 7 feet usable) shrunk to just two...

Ya I really like the one I have, large enough to handle ammo for either my staff sling or my hand slings... gets a little heavy fully loaded though LOL.

Use the first sling to get the form for throwing down, it is usually easier to learn with a short sling.  Then switch to the longer sling and then go to a longer one until you reach the length you feel comfortable with.  I still have my first sling, it is about a foot long, it works great when you are teaching 4th graders to sling.  Bill

PS, Your slings look great, my first is a 3 strand sheepshank as described by Malik Lund.
