Long hunter knife
Aug 22nd, 2011 at 8:33am

So I have been looking for a knife with these details some where around the $50-100 range and so far the only thing I have found is the BHK Pathfinder which is much more expensive.

Pretty much the main details I am looking for are wooden handles (or wood like micarta), 10in over all, carbon steel blade, scandi grind, good thich blade, and leather sheath.

Mainly I am looking for some kind of knife that would have been used in the 1700s. If you know any good knife producers who make older style knives for a reasonable price please post here. Thanks in advance.

Check out "Swampfox Knives". Everything he makes is based on 17th to early 19 th century design. He did a lot of the stuff for "The Patriot" and "Last of the Mohicans".

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Also try Green River Knives. They are a little out of your price range though. Tongue (Because they cost a lot less!)

If you feel like making your own sheath, an Old Hickory butcher knife is pretty much identical to an early 19th century hunting knife.  Bill

Never used one, but stromeng knives are pretty traditional and look good. Ragweedforge sells them.

Flea markets are a good spot to find them. I found a beautiful 11inch carbon steel blade that would have fit your description exactly  It was an old butcher's knife.

Me and my older brothers are finally getting carbon steel knives,  much better than stainless steel,  like from condor tool and knife,  I have the basic bushcraft knife with a 5 inch blade, nd my oldest bro has the bushlore,  both are razor sharp(scary sharp  Sad)

i've heard good things about them. although most say that the fit and finish is a little lacking. ahhh if only i ad a credit card. or seeing what i would blow all my money on i guess i probably shouldn't.....

fit and finish is great,  only wish my knife had a coat all over the blade,  not just on 2 sides

Atlanta Cutlery used to sell colonial pattern knives with a forged finish still on them.  Only the edges had been polished and ground.  The blades were quite thin, less than 1/16 inch.  They had wooden handles with what I think were carbon steel pins.  As cutters, they were quite nice.  You might also check out Koyote Knives.

Don't make the mistake of thinking carbon steel is better than stainless.  Each has their advantages.

looking through the site, I found this knife. For a Damascus Steel knife, it's really cheap. It would definitely be a good buy. It's in your price range, but it's a little longer than you wanted.

I don't know of many knives in the style you described, but on an unrelated note that BHK Bushcrafter looks to be one superb knife.
