My new Glass Knives with stands
Jul 16th, 2011 at 5:56pm

Hey, I made these 3 up over the past few days.  The points are made from beachglass I collected, bases to be exact.  The handles and display stands are carved from driftwood I picked up, I think most of it is spruce but the stand on the one with the leaf shaped blade is red oak, kind of strange to find red oak driftwood here in N.B. but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.  The blades are hafted with epoxy, I will have to try making some pine pitch sometime and I am still on the hunt for some gut!
Please let me know what you think, comments, suggestions, critiques and nit picks welcome!

Those are nice.  See if you can find an old dump and look for old bleach bottles.  They are the same color as beer bottles but they are much larger.  You can usually find old dumps around the older homesteads, you are looking for glass that was dumped in the 20's to the 60's, after that, the switch to plastic started and the glass got much thinner.  Bill

Yep, I sell arrowhead necklaces, slings, inuit snow goggles, arrowhead frames, etc. at a local market.  I sold 2 knives in the past 2 weeks there, with oak handles and ash stands but I thought up using driftwood for these and I like these better than those two so I think I will be using it a lot from now on.

I like those knives a lot, I`d prefer the more narrow green one with the straight handle, but they are all just fine.
When it stops raining I`ll probably take a look at the old green lump of glass we have laying about somewhere, it could be made into a lot of glass knives, if I just learned how to knap it.
As kids we guessed it was some kind of emerald, though Smiley
