Slinging Rocks!

Making a sling pouch, any ideas
May 17th, 2011 at 9:00am

Whenever I go slinging in the outdoors I have problems storing any good stones I find.
So I thought about making an somewhat authentic slingers pouch/bag.

Is there anyone who knows how these were made, what they were made of, colors, maybe even a pattern?

I've found a lot of info on slings and ammunition but non on this subject

I believe someone asked the same question not too long ago, and in one of the replies there were some
Good pictures of shepards pouches.

Thank you but I could'nt find the post.
I did found a topic on what people use to put there ammo in.

I'm affraid I wasn't clear enough  Wink I wasn't talking about the pouches of slings but the historical bags where slingers put there stones in to carry them with them.
I wonder what they are made of and how to make them and what info is available

I recently got a awesome bag that works pretty well for slinging. Oil cloth haversack about 1/2 way down the page http://canteenshop.com/id75.html . Very heavy duty and works great for day trips and such too, as well as excellent customer service (got mine in 2 days).

I was pretty good at slinging like 10 years ago.

I make possibles bag out of leather,  cotton and  ever I can find,  I'll post some pics later,  just simple shoulder bags,  about 11" by 12" I dont use em to store ammo,  thought I do have a bag full of stones,  I use em for hunting sometimes to store essentials n soo on

I've had this idea for a while to expand upon stormdrane's paracord pouch design. He uses a soda can as a form to weave this pouch, and from what i can tell, it can be done on any shape/size form (IE shepard's pouch).

I've just decided that I'm going to weave and braid my next ammo bag.  The store bought bolt bags I use only last around two months.  I was thinking of doing a five strand flat braid.  When I get to the pouch I'd separate the five strands and I'd make them different lengths.  The one closest to my hip and the farthest outside one would be the shortest, the next two would be a little longer and the center would be the longest.  That should give me a nice, deep pouch for lots of stones.  I have some cheap but good thick hemp that would make an idea pouch I believe.  If the five strand flat braid looks too wide I'll do a three strand and just whip in some extra strands for the pouch.  If it comes out OK I'll post pictures here in a few days.

Yikes!  I have to tell you, guys, weaving a nice deep pouch on a braided belt is a lot more difficult than it sounds!!!  My first plan is garbage.  I need to think this through much more thoroughly.  Has anyone ever done anything like that? Can it even be done?
I just Googled and came up with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QOXQuLVzQU
I'll bet modifying these instructions for something much bigger with much heavier cord is the key.  I could conceivably make the pouch independently of the belt, leaving long tags on the pouch to whip it to the belt when finished.  Back to the drawing board!!!
