Balearic Target Accuracy
Jan 3rd, 2011 at 3:08pm

The Balearic standard target consists of a 120 cm (approx. 4') white square with a central circular bull of 50 cm (approx. 20")dia. They sling at distances of 20 and 30 metres. But what I can't find is an indication of how often they hit.

Does anyone know what typical scores they get? Eg. what percentage of the time does a champion like Luis Pons Livermore expect to hit the black?

I have looked at their site before and just now had another quick look and found details of the rules but no actual scores. Perhaps they are not available in English?

http://www.tirdefona.org/ingles/marcoing.htm

If you click "results" and then "competitions"on the left bar, you get the reports of the last years. By clicking one of them and "actas an~o 2010", eg, then "resumen", you get the top slingers of the competition plus their scores.

Jaegoor told me that "Diana" means a hit at the iron centre of the target (2 points), "impactos" simple hits at the white periphery of the target (one point). Each slinger has 20 shots. Jaume Darder Quetglas, for example, during the last competition in october, scored 17 by hitting the black centre 4 times and the white zone 9 times.

That makes 13 total hits out of 20 shots (!!!)

Btw and for comparison: If you want to get the yellow t-shirt in Germany (the lowest rank), you'll have to score 8 points from a distance of 20 metres with 20 shots (5X4).

Just curious, does Jaume Darder Quetglas represent an average slinger in this competition. Or is he at the lower end or higher end?

Great! Thanks for the link. I will do a bit of averaging out the scores to see what I can come up with.

I the meantime, at 30m the 50cm target will require a precision of 1 degree of angle, the white square approx 3 degrees and they don't hit it every time. That's going to represent a realistic goal for this year.

He is the current champion in his age group: http://www.tirdefona.org/Notas/cb2010.htm

I prefer 10 and 20 meters to 20 and 30 meters Cheesy
The balearic target is not too unlike the ball catcher I have been aiming at this summer, and I don`t think I would have made an absolute fool of myself if I had to participate in a balearic competition.
This do not mean I would not find it hard to hit even the white square, and I would not hit it all/most of the times, but it`s a realistic target for slingers.

I had a look at the link and there must be something more to calculating the score. The top three scores in the junior section being:
1. 17 points 4 black 9 white     2. 15 points 1 black 11 white       3. 13 points 5 black 7 white

Now (1)   4 x 2 + 9 = 17    (2)  1 x 2+ 11 = 13 not 15 and   (3)   5 x 2 + 7 = 17 not 13  So the scores for 2. and 3. must have been arrived at some different way

Oh yes, it seems like the rule with the 2 points for the Diana applies only for the children group, and the adults count three for each Diana hit, maybe because they shoot from a greater distance. I'll have a look at the rules on the page.

the adults shoot from 3 or four distances. So scores will obviously change depending on how far they are shooting from.
