Do you have bamboo?  If you do, you can make a couple of large pistons.  Bill

Ancient Egyptian iron forges had a set up with multiple blow pipes under the fire that slaves blew into instead of using a bellows. If you have bamboo you can attach a reciprocating compressor to a bamboo pipe to imitate a dozen egyptians (or maori) blowing hard.

Wrong!
Dried ferns can be used for igniting the fire, and hard wood is the best one to get a very powerful coal  Smiley
Said this.... make some archaeological researches! Look in museums, read books, there must be some artifact related to metal working!
You could begin from that to come to a solution!
Keep us informed!
Greetings,
Mauro.

Split, hollow, and rejoin a small hardwood to make a pipe. It works for Native Australians, why not for Maori?

And enemies, of course. The Polynesians practiced cannibalism, so why waste the "wrapper"?

I meant for making blowing air, but point taken. As far as i can tell, there is NO evidence of Maori metal working at all. Plenty of stone working though, and advanced agricultural ideas.
Also "pa" builing, which essentailly are similar to moate and bailliy style castles in 1000 AD brittian.
(correct me if im wrong there)

Masiakasaurus,
A digerydoo! I didnt think of that, good idea

HurlinThom,
I dont think ill get many participants/ materials for that experiement.....
But thats a good point, it could be worked into a soft leather right?
