HEY PALEOARTS!! I GOT A CAMERA HERE'S THE BOLA!!

Hey paleoarts, I said I would post it and here it is.  I will get a pic of the rabbit stick as soon as possible! I just got a camera so I'm posting all of my stuff on here now.

I may want to do some whipping on it, but I haven't got around to it yet.

nice bolas..... about how long are they?
btw, what are those balls made of? it looks like wood but it seems like that would be a little light.

I'll have to measure it, I think it's about 24in.  The balls are made of yellow birch, I carved them out of a yellow birch branch using a hunting knife.  I drilled the hole against the grain to prevent splitting and did a flat braid in hopes that it wouldn't tangle as much as a twisted cord or round braid.  I've used it and it works pretty well, I was able to get it to tangle around a post nicely and when thrown by the center it delivers a heck of a wack with all 3 balls to a styrofoam target.  It seems to have a lot of range too though I'll have to measure sometime to give an estimate, maybe 100ft.?  I'm terrible with estimating length as I haven't really measured it before.
It's a gaucho type, they used the ones with wooden balls or bags of sand to capture stray animals without doing serious injury, much like they use a lasso now, I figured a less lethal one would be good to learn with.

Paleoarts actually showed me how to do that.  He gave me the braiding directions and I promised I would show him pics of the finished bola, so big credit to Paleoarts here!

I really like the carved wooden weights! How long did they take to carve?

About an hour maybe, I just sat down on the front porch and carved them.  They were carved from a branch or a base of a young yellow birch, can't remember which.  The whole thing took about 4 hours to make.
