Santana

So my wife is watching Dancing With the Stars the other night and much to my surprise out comes old Carlos Santana.  He rocked the house.

It was wonderful to see/hear one of the all time greatest electric guitar gods still tearing the strings off.

All those of you who don't like the 60s, please take note: Santana performed at Woodstock.

He had a broken hamate bone in his left hand which had to be removed. From an interview he gave it sounded like he was still able to play with the broken bone, but it hurt, and he stopped doing concerts for a year. After the surgery the pain went away, and he was back to his shredding Latin music self. All of this happened 3-4 years ago.

We saw him a few years ago and I thought that he'd lost something to old age, but on Dancing he was as good as ever.  That explains it.

Carlos always put more emotion into each note than half-a-dozen other pickers combined.   His solo pieces, Europa and Samba Pa Ti, are outstanding.

Also, unknown to many rock fans, Carlos played extensively with various jazz artists.

I the list of everyone he ever played with is huge.  I consider him among the very best electric guitarists ever.

The version of Soul Sacrifice he did at Woodstock has stood as one of the most scorching electric guitar performances ever.  Woodstock was the first time many of us ever heard of Santana. He's been rockin' us through five decades now.

I had the pleasure of seeing Santana perform at Woodstock about 4 months ago. He was at the Bethel Woods performing Arts center on the site of the original concert. Great performance.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
